What are cosmetic injectables?

Cosmetic injectables are non-surgical medical procedures that provide facial contouring, volumisation and the minimisation of visible lines and wrinkles.

When done by a cosmetically trained registered nurse or doctor, the results are minimally invasive and provide a natural and subtle enhancement to the area being treated, such as around the eyes, forehead, cheeks, mouth, jawline, and neck area.

The most widely used cosmetic injectable procedures are anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers, and while both are popular, they are very different.

Let us explain.

Anti-wrinkling injections

Anti-wrinkle injections use a neurotoxin injected directly into a targeted area, such as around the eyes or forehead, to relax facial muscle contractions. By minimising movement of the underlying muscle, lines and wrinkles can be smoothed and minimised.  The results can be seen within two weeks, typically lasting up to 3 months.

Derma fillers

Dermal fillers typically use hyaluronic acid to restore facial volume to areas of the face where sagging has occurred due to natural ageing, environmental stress, and hormonal changes. The results are immediate and can last up to twelve months. Once injected, hyaluronic acid fills the treatment area to provide contour and volume.

Both cosmetic injectables can cause mild swelling and bruising, usually settling down within three to four days.

What are the benefits of cosmetic injectables over facial surgery?

How effective are cosmetic injectables, and will the benefits last?

The effectiveness of cosmetic injectables depends on the specific type of cosmetic injectable used, the area treated, and individual factors such as age and skin condition.

Anti-wrinkle injections used to smooth fine lines and wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle contractions, such as around the eyes and forehead, will typically last three to four months when new neurotransmitters are created at the treatment site, which overrides the toxin, and muscle movement returns.

We recommend repeating the procedure twice to three times yearly to maintain the desired result.

Dermal fillers are highly effective in returning volume to the face and improving areas where the skin has begun to sag. The effects of dermal fillers can last from six months to two years and depend upon the specific filler used, the area treated the patient’s age and the overall skin condition.

With consistent skincare and maintenance treatments, dermal filler results are long-lasting and remain for up to two years.

While cosmetic injectables can be highly effective, their results are not permanent, and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the benefits of these procedures.

Other types of cosmetic injectables?

As well as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers, we offer other cosmetic injectables to plump, boost and rejuvenate the skin.

They include Profhilo, PRP Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatments and Skin Boosters.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a multi-level two-part skin-boosting injectable treatment formulated to improve skin laxity, sagging skin and loss of fullness while providing intense hydration and re-contouring of the face.

Hyaluronic acid is injected into five key points on each side of the face. Unlike other dermal fillers, the hyaluronic acid in Profhilo has a runny consistency. Once injected into the face, hyaluronic acid is dispersed evenly under the skin, immediately refreshing, hydrating, and plumping the skin.

Over the next eight weeks, new collagen and elastin will be activated, tightening and firming the skin to give you a more youthful look.

Two Profhilo treatments are required four weeks apart, with the best results being visible four weeks after the second treatment.

Results vary from person to person and can be influenced by age and skin condition. However, in most cases, excellent results can be seen two weeks after the first injectable treatment, with optimal results four weeks after your second treatment.

The effects of Profhilo last six to twelve months, and we recommend top-up treatments to maintain the results.

What are Skin Boosters?

Our Skin Booster treatment is an injectable that combines all the benefits of collagen induction with skin needling and the volume support of dermal fillers for firmer, more hydrated skin.

Skin Booster Injections typically contain hyaluronic acid combined with vitamins, amino acids, minerals, antioxidants, and lightening properties.

Skin Booster treatments are great for improving the appearance of the face, neck, decolletage and backs of the hands and are an excellent treatment for under-eye dark circles and the prevention of skin ageing.

The results will typically last from three to six months but may vary depending on the age, skin condition and other lifestyle and environmental factors such as exposure to pollutants and the sun.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Treatment

PRP treatments are non-surgical procedures for skin rejuvenation using the platelets and plasma from your blood to stimulate new cell growth and reverse the signs of ageing.

PRP treatments are a three-step process administered by one of our fully qualified cosmetically trained registered nurses.

PRP Treatments are an effective non-surgical method for reducing lines and wrinkles, firming sagging skin, improving overall complexion, and improving acne scars.

Optimal results can take up to three months after your initial treatment. Like all cosmetic injectables, the duration and effects of PRP treatments vary from person to person and are influenced by factors such as age, skin type, lifestyle and environmental exposure.
