Healthy habits

It’s no surprise at the beginning of a new year that you may feel the need to embark on a detox diet after a summer of overindulgence.

I know I do…

My usual healthy habits went out the window for a few weeks. Maybe it was the after-effects of a year of restrictions and stress. I just needed to relax and unwind.

But now, with the working year in full swing, I’m ready to get back into my usual healthy routines.

So I thought it might be the perfect time to share a few of my own tips to reboot your body.

But first and to be clear; my tips are not about embarking on a detoxifying diet.

Your body already has everything it needs to eliminate toxins. Your liver, lungs, kidneys, digestive system, and skin all work around the clock to eliminate harmful toxins.

However, after a period of overindulgence, the body could do with a little help to reboot.

My daily healthy habits will help to support your body so every organ of elimination can work harmoniously.

Here are my three top tips to get you back on track.

Lemon juice to start the day.

Juicing is such a great way to start the day. A simple juice from a freshly squeezed lemon, will activate your digestive enzymes and send valuable glucose to energise your cells.

Folate, also known as B9 activates digestive enzymes to improve digestion, supports DNA repair and enhances cell division.

An abundance of vitamin C in lemons strengthens your body’s immunity and an essential nutrient for collagen and elastin production.

Adding lemon juice to water improves hydration and allows the water molecule to efficiently carry nutrients and glucose to the cells where they’re needed.

One of my favourite juices to get the day started is a combination of the following:

Cucumber, Lemon and Mint*

A refreshing, cooling and hydrating juice providing you with a burst of antioxidant nutrition to fight free radicals and reduce inflammation in the body.

Combine cucumber, mint and lemon juice in a blender or juicer, and you’re ready to go. You can top up your glass with a little filtered water if desired.

*It’s a good idea to wait at least 30 minutes before eating breakfast.

Clearing away toxins.

Improve your body’s ability to clear toxins and waste and other unwanted metabolic waste by encouraging lymphatic drainage.

The Lymphatic system is part of your circulatory system and responsible for moving toxins through the body via your lymph nodes.

However, unlike your blood vessels that move blood around your body with the pumping of your heart, the lymphatic system needs physical movement for proper functioning.

Gentle exercise. Starting your day with a 30-minute walk or swim is the perfect way to clear away the toxins accumulating in your body.

Skin Brushing. Gentle skin brushing with a soft body brush can assist in clearing the lymphatic system. The best way to skin brush is in an upward motion towards your heart.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage. You may want to speed up or unclog your lymphatic system with a manual lymphatic drainage skin treatment.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is an essential aspect of healthy longevity, and we’ve included this treatment in our service menu.

Increase your consumption of vegetables.

My daily go-to for lunch is a big healthy salad full of a variety of raw vegetables—the more colour in your salad the better.

Adding a little protein is also a good idea, perhaps some tuna, lean organic (where possible) chicken or raw nuts like almonds and walnuts and pumpkin and sunflower seeds.

So, that’s my three top ways to reboot your body.

Of course, there are other things you can do. Reduce your alcohol consumption, cut back on sugar and processed foods and aim for 8 hours of sleep every night.
