I have three ingredients in my daily skincare routine that I consider the heroes in my bathroom cabinet.

Niacinamide, Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid are the hero ingredients that all work in slightly different ways to provide my skin with protection and rejuvenation and hydration.

When put together, they work in harmony to support my efforts in keeping my skin healthy and resilient and glowing.

Protecting the skin with niacinamide.

It supports the skin in so many ways and is suitable for every skin type and skin condition.

Niacinamide is an essential nutrient that keeps your body functioning as it should. In your diet, it can be found in red meat, chicken, fish, and green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, and asparagus; even the humble loaf of bread is fortified with Niacin.

So, you’re not likely to be deficient; however, it’s easy for the skin to become deficient with daily exposure to the environment. This is why adding it to your daily skincare routine is an excellent idea.

But how does applying niacinamide topically to your skin help?

Well, it’s an impressive list of benefits.

Niacinamide supports the immunity of the skin, which means a better repair mechanism and reduced inflammation.

Your epidermal barrier performance will be improved, which means far less irritation and redness and much better water retention to minimise dehydration.

Niacinamide also helps protect your skin from the sun’s heat and has been shown to reduce the transfer of pigment in the skin, which, when left unchecked, leads to visible blotchy pigmentation.

Cell rejuvenation with vitamin A aka Retinol.

You may be familiar with vitamin A also known as retinol. Vitamin A is another essential nutrient for every organ of your body.

Retinol plays a unique role in keeping the skin healthy and youthful when it comes to your skin.

When applied regularly, retinol will increase skin cell turnover.

Unfortunately, skin cell turnover slows down with age, so giving the skin a boost in this way means the skin is constantly being restored and rejuvenated.

Retinol will also repair damage caused by the environment by repairing the DNA of your skin cells.

Symptoms of DNA damage can vary from blotchy pigmentation to lines and wrinkles, dull, lifeless and dehydrated skin and some skin cancers.

When introducing retinol into your skincare routine, it’s always best to start slowly and build up your use over time as your skin becomes more robust and tolerant.

If your skin does become irritated, simply slow down both usage and the amount you’re applying. When it comes to retinol, less is always more, and once your skin adapts, you will begin to see a remarkable improvement in the texture, hydration and tone of your skin.

Bring your bounce back with hyaluronic acid

Your body already produces hyaluronic acid; it’s a watery substance that provides cushioning to your skin.

Found in the dermis, if you’ve been protecting your skin with niacinamide and retinol, you’ll naturally produce hyaluronic acid within the deeper layers of your skin to give it suppleness and bounce.

But, with constant exposure to the trials of a harsh environment, sometimes it’s hard for the skin to keep up.

A daily dose of hyaluronic acid is the perfect way to keep the surface of the skin hydrated while your skin’s natural processes do their work.
