Three common ageing skin conditions.

We often see these three skin conditions in the clinic, and we know they’re a concern to you. Blotchy pigmentation, sagging skin, and what is often described as orange peel skin can be upsetting when they appear as if out of the blue.

However, the good news we can minimise the appearance with quality skincare formulations and the correct treatments for these ageing skin concerns.

I want to go through each of these ageing skin conditions and what you can do at home and in the clinic.

#1 Brown patches of pigmentation

The uneven brown patches of hyperpigmentation can appear on the skin at any age.

However, as time goes by, the skin’s ability to provide an even distribution of pigment to form a tan on the skin begins to diminish, leading to the sudden onset of blotchy pigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is most commonly caused by sun exposure, and as little as 5 minutes a day over a lifetime can induce blotchy pigment. Some medications and hormonal influences can also trigger a change in the distribution of melanin pigment.

It can be distressing to see brown patches appear almost overnight.

What can you do to clear away unwanted pigment?

Once again, the sun is the number one culprit. Therefore, as with any corrective treatment, we strongly recommend sun protection using a broad-spectrum sunscreen as the first line of defence.

Followed by specialised skincare ingredients such as alpha-arbutin and vitamin C to inhibit the enzymes that activate pigment and niacinamide to slow the transfer of blotchy pigmentation throughout the skin.

Your in-clinic treatment solution.

A non-invasive treatment is performed with medical-grade light technology designed to target damaged skin conditions such as pigmentation.

Lumenis IPL is a brilliant way to clear away unwanted sun-induced pigment.

We’ll target the areas of concern, and over time blotchy patches of pigment will begin to diminish.

#2 Sagging Skin

You’ve looked after your skin, and for the most part, you’re delighted with your skin’s texture and overall appearance.

But still, you’ve noticed a loss of jawline definition, jowls forming around your mouth and sagging under your chin.

The appearance of sagging skin can be unsettling and make you look older than you feel, and none of us wants that, and even skin glowing with good health can lose elasticity and start to sag in all the wrong places.

What can you do about sagging skin?

Starting with high performing skincare is essential. Providing your skin with the necessary nutrients to repair and rejuvenate the skin and reduce signs of sun damage will improve the appearance of ageing skin. Retinol, vitamin C, niacinamide and specialised peptides will be your skin’s best friend.

Your in-clinic treatment solution.

Collagen and elastin break down over time, leaving the skin wrinkled and sagging. Activating these substances is precisely what your skin needs to appear more youthful, and Ultraformer III High-Frequency Focussed Ultrasound (HIFU) is the perfect solution to lifting sagging skin.

UltraFormer III is an advanced technology delivering intense yet painless heat through ultrasound waves to reach deep into the dermis, creating micro-wounds to trick the skin into a healing response that triggers the activation of new collagen and elastin.

We’ll lift and sculpt areas of the face and tighten sagging skin on your jawline, eye area, even your neck, and under the chin, quickly and naturally.

#3 Orange Peel Skin

Sometimes the skin on your face, neck and chest can take on what can only be described as the look of an orange peel. Your pores appear enlarged, and the skin’s texture begins to dimple, and the surface may look rough and dehydrated.

Orange peel skin signifies sun damage, and as a consequence, the skin around the pore changes in size and shape caused by a loss of collagen and elastin.

It can be frustrating when no amount of exfoliation improves the look of your skin, and achieving a flawless finish to your makeup seems like a distant memory.

What can you do about orange peel skin?

As always, sun protection with a broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential to halt the damage caused by the sun.

A well-formulated retinol serum or cream will address the underlying sun damage and improve the elasticity of the surrounding skin and weekly mask treatments to refine the surface and restore moisture balance.

Your in-clinic treatment solution.

Medical micro-needling is a great way to improve the appearance of orange peel skin by activating new collagen to strengthen the skin’s elasticity around the pore, reducing the appearance of orange peel skin.

Medical micro-needling gently punctures the skin to induce a wound response, activating new collagen to reduce the visible signs of sun damage.

At Select Skin, we use Dermapen 3, a medically engineered device that utilises 12 surgical grade micro-needles to deliver effective skin needling targeting the areas of concern effortlessly and safely.
